An offline AI assistant for Android that works without internet
Yes, an AI assistant can work fully offline on Android. Corenyth runs its fine-tuned AI model on your phone, so chat, tasks, reminders and personal memory work without an internet connection. The release app has no INTERNET permission at all; you download the model once in your browser and install it locally.
Requirements
- An Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer phone with a 64-bit ARM processor.
- About 364 MiB of free storage for the model, plus the app.
- Notification and exact-alarm permissions if you want reminders.
- RAM needs and performance across devices are still being evaluated in the current alpha build.
How to set it up
- Download the APK from the Corenyth GitHub release and install it on your Android phone.
- Open Corenyth once and grant file access.
- Use “Download in browser” in the app, or get the GGUF model from the same release.
- Move the model from Download to Documents/localmodels, keeping the exact filename.
- Return to the app. Corenyth checks the file size and SHA-256 before loading the model.
- Enable notification and exact-alarm access, then type your first request.
What works offline
- Typed chat with the on-device model.
- Creating, completing, snoozing and postponing tasks and reminders.
- Saving, recalling, correcting and forgetting personal memories.
- Preparation nudges, meeting check-ins and the evening review.
- Home-screen task and companion widgets with a quick chat panel.
What stays on your phone
Everything. Conversations, tasks, reminders and memories are stored in local SQLite. There is no cloud account, telemetry server or remote model. Because the release build has no network permission, the app itself cannot send your data anywhere.
Offline vs online AI assistants on Android
Most Android AI assistants send each request to a server. That gives them broad knowledge, but they stop working without a connection and your requests leave the device.
Corenyth makes the opposite trade-off. A small fine-tuned model is narrower, but it responds without a connection, keeps your data private by design and focuses on everyday follow-through: tasks, reminders and remembering what matters to you.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an AI assistant for Android that works without internet?
Yes. Corenyth is an Android AI assistant that runs its model on the phone and works without internet. The release app has no INTERNET permission; only the one-time model download happens in your browser.
Does Corenyth need Google services or an account?
No account is needed. Corenyth stores everything locally and does not use a cloud model. Install the APK and the model file from the GitHub release.
How fast is an offline AI assistant on a phone?
It depends on the device. A short check on one phone recorded roughly 3–4 seconds for warm replies, with longer first replies. This is not a cross-device benchmark.
